Was He a Traitor or a Hero?

Labor Day weekend, 2018 and the only thing to watch on television all weekend was the funeral of Senator John McCain. I suppose that could have been background for my holiday weekend activities but it soon became apparent to me that is was not going to be my background to show respect – it soon became my background to show a bit of disrespect for his last hurrah, or more aptly I will call it the McCain show.

Every once in a while I took time to listen to some of the speeches about what a great guy he was and what a hero he was and how adored he was. Most everybody who had the microphone spoke of his heroism and his sacrifices and his service to his country.

But, something kept gnawing at me as the week-end long funeral progressed. I started to realize that his pick for Vice President when he ran for the POTUS, Sarah Palin had not been heard from. Later, during the weekend it was noted that she wasn’t even invited to the funeral. So, in between all the pomp and ceremony of the funeral, we were informed that the President was not welcome nor was his pick for his Vice President when he was running for President.

Seems like it was the media and the Trump haters excuse to poke at Trump during the weekend funeral. He did not leave the flag at half-mast long enough, he was playing golf instead of showing respect for a person that showed NO respect for him – especially since it was announced many times during the weekend that he was not to show up at McCain’s funeral. And then, when the eulogy speeches began, almost everyone who spoke made nasty references about Trump during their apparent moment to praise McCain. I actually go a bit sickened by his daughter’s speech when she went nasty on Trump when she should have stuck to praise about her dad. It was all in bad taste, IMO.

So, after hearing all about what a wonderful guy he was I woke up to a video on a friends Facebook about John McCain the traitor. It inspired me to write this article. I went back to copy that link from my friends page and hmmm. it has mysteriously disappeared from Facebook. So, what else is new? I did in fact find the video on YouTube and have posted the link at the end of this article.

And, I might add, even though everyone was trying to praise McCain there was many references to his nasty temper and his being a maverick.

Here’s the gist of the rest of the John McCain story…..

A group that calls itself Vietnam Veterans against John McCain distributed a flyer alleging that McCain, widely regarded as a hero for his five years as a prisoner of war, was a traitor.

The flyer has a caricature of a surly-looking McCain in a prison cell under the words, “Hanoi Hilton Songbird.” The second page is headlined “FACT SHEET: Military Record of John Sidney McCain III” and it begins with some accurate biographical information.

The man behind the flyer describes his group as a one-man operation unaffiliated with any political party or campaign. He says he opposes McCain because of the senator’s efforts to normalize relations with the Vietnamese communist government and because, in his view, McCain has helped the U.S. government keep information about POWs classified.

“John McCain has made sure the information concerning the lives of Americans we clearly abandoned after the war remain in government files 40 years later,” he says.

At the end of his life and perhaps during his last vote as a Senator, a lot of Republicans thought John McCain to be a traitor to the Republican Party when he cast the lone deciding vote against the Affordable Care Act. And, one must understand that he campaigned for years that he would do away with ACA- “Obama Care” at the first chance he got to do so….and he did not do that. His dislike for Trump was more important than his campaign promise to vote to do away with “Obama Care.” Yes, because of McCain we are still stuck with Obama Care. He said he thought it NOT right that only Republicans would vote against Obama Care so he voted no. Did he not remember that when it passed in the middle of the night only Democrats voted to pass it?

Was he a coward when it came to standing up for all the malicious gossip and crap that was thrown to Sarah Palin both during and after her run for his Vice President or was it just plain mean to let it be known that she was not invited to his funeral.

Was it statesman like to invite Republican and Democrat past presidents to his funeral and not the current president or was it just plain rude?

So, was John McCain a traitor or a hero – that is the question?

  1. Marcia Marks says:

, in his view, McCain has helped the U.S. government keep information about POWs classified.

“John McCain has made sure the information concerning the lives of Americans we clearly abandoned after the war remain in government files 40 years later,” he says.

Bea, you are quoting someone who has no proof. Goodness, he might even be a holocaust denier. But believe him. And quote him. And you hate McCain for sticking to his beliefs and not being one of the sheep who go along with trump even though his goal is to be another Putin and make his cronies oligarchs? Hope none of your family need abortions. Hope you don’t need social security money because that’s just a handout. Hope you don’t care that our national parks have oil rigs in them, because trump wants his friends to make money. Yes, privatize prisons and families like Betsy DeVos can make more millions. Have you no shame. This is a morally corrupt person you lovingly support.

  2. Bea-isms says:

Marcia, thank you for blogging your comments on Bea-ism – especially since it gave me a chance to answer your grievances with what I posted on Facebook.

You fail to realize that I wrote this article simply to point out that the McCain funeral was a disgrace because a lot of the speakers, including his daughter chose to trash Trump rather than spend their precious time at the mike praising McCain. That bothered me a lot. It told me a lot about him when I realized that he held grudges, especially he held a grudge against Trump and Sarah Palin and made it known that they were not invited to his funeral. So, I guess he had the last word on showing his dislike for them.

BTW, he had no beliefs when it came to his nay vote on repealing the Affordable Care Act, especially because he campaigned many times to repeal and replace it. He only voted nay to give the finger to Trump and to make Trump not get this important vote. So, if you want to argue that McCain voted because of his beliefs then why did he go against his own beliefs just to screw over Trump on that vote. And, as long as you are talking about sheep, what about the Democrats who were SHEEP when they voted in the Affordable Care Act in the middle of the night on a Sunday and with NO Republican votes. Talk about sheep.

Now, about abortions. If anyone in my family ever needed or had an abortion I would not discuss this however I am not opposed to abortions. What I am opposed to is the Government paying for abortions. Just remember Marcia, every time the government pays for anything it is coming out of the taxpayers’ pockets. The government’s only income is what they can tax to you and me. Again, I will say, an abortion is a choice that a women is able to make and it is legal for her to get an abortion however she or the person who impregnated her should pay for it – not me and my taxes.

Now, getting to your comment about Social Security. I live on my social security and it is not a handout. I have paid into the Social Security fund since I was 15 years old and the government is not giving me anything that I have not earned. Why can’t you understand that?

Now, about our National Parks – I copied this off the internet. “Across this great land, our national parks, wildlands, forests, and lakes are being turned over to UN control. Joseph Urso, Jr., a friend of the ministry who hails from Knoxville, Tennessee, recently sent me a photograph of the entrance sign of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Notice the telling phrase on the sign: “AN INTERNATIONAL BIOSPHERE RESERVE.”
This means that, under the United Nations Biodiversity Treaty, a precious resource—owned by American citizens for over 200 years—has been turned over to the UN’s bureaucrats for control. Yes, you and I will continue to pay taxes for the maintenance and upkeep of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. But we no longer own it.”Thank you Bill Clinton for this.

So, Marcia, your argument that this is a morally corrupt person you lovingly support, your words about Trump not mine, makes no sense to me.

I will add one more thought of my own. When it comes to support of Israel, I will take Trump over Obama any day.
